WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
We’re so happy to see so many families and kids walking to school today!
Kaya, everyone. As you’re aware we are experiencing high rates of positive COVID cases with students and staff at the moment. We have also had quite a few students absent with common colds and the regular flu. At times it is hard to distinguish between these and COVID, so if in doubt, please use the RAT kits. If you are yet to pick up your 20 per student free RATs, please drop into our front office to collect them at a time that suits you.
Thank you again to parents for your support in keeping unwell and/or symptomatic children home and following WA Health’s close contact protocols, we really appreciate it. If your child is away (whether due to COVID or anything else) please continue to report their absence to the school as soon as practicable. You can send an email to MountHawthorn.PSAdmin@education.wa.edu.au, an SMS to 0438 978 189, or contact us via Connect.
Schools across WA are struggling with backfilling absent staff at the moment. At Mount Hawthorn PS we have been able to source enough relief staff (just!) to provide our desired coverage, but this might not be possible if case numbers continue to rise. If we become unable to backfill or provide internal coverage we may need to collapse classes at some point, and we will let you know if this is required.
Next week we’ve got our faction cross country for Year 3-6 students at Menzies Park on Tuesday, 24 May. Parents and spectators are most welcome, and I’m looking forward to seeing our students use their determination and resilience to tackle the course.
All uniform items should have your child’s full name clearly visible. With the cooler weather approaching, please remember our green school jumpers are a part of the school uniform, so please ensure your child is wearing the endorsed uniform.
The lost property is located next to the Harbeck Library in the storage area, if your child is missing a uniform item, please check there as a priority.
Mount Hawthorn Primary Photo Days – Monday 23 May and Monday 30 May
Please see the ATTACHED SCHEDULE for School Photo Days.
All students are required to wear the official school uniform – GOLD SHIRTS/CHECKED TUNIC except Year 6 who will wear their GREEN LEADERS SHIRTS.
*NB – If your child is absent due to illness or another reason, please contact Kapture via their website and complete the appropriate form. There is the option to make a studio appointment or to receive a refund.
Mount Hawthorn Primary School will once again be submitting four teams into the upcoming Champion Schools Basketball Tournament which will be an all-day tournament held on Wednesday 3 August at Bendat Basketball Centre. Click HERE for more information.
Please take time to read The Interschool Selection Policy, particularly this year as many students may be absent due to illness. Those students who are impacted by this and consider themselves worthy of selection need to notify Sue Kenny and Anita Putt by Tuesday 24 May 2022. Results won`t change from the carnival day, however interschool selection will be based on fastest times.
Information regarding the Interschool Cross Country will be provided following the faction carnival.
May is the national cystic fibrosis awareness month and Friday 27 May is 65 Roses Day, our day of cystic fibrosis awareness.
We will be selling the roses before and after school next Friday for $5.00 each or 12 for $50.00. Pre-orders can be placed by emailing Mike at couchie@y7mail.com by 4.00pm Thursday 26 May.
Where the Money Goes – your support this 65 Roses Day will enable us to provide essential support services and critical research funding to improve the lives of people living with CF in Western Australia.
On Wednesday 25 May we will be celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime. Every year an Australian book is read in libraries, schools and homes all over the country. Last year, Give Me Some Space! was read from the International Space Station. This year we are closer to home with Family Tree by Josh Pike. In the Library we will be creating a tree decorated with what our family means to us. You are most welcome to pop in to discover our fabulous display. We will have news on the Premier’s Reading Challenge to follow.
