From the Principal
The 2022 school year has started as smoothly as it can, given the current COVID restrictions. I have been very fortunate to meet and greet many students and families before and after school and have had the privilege to visit classrooms throughout the day. The students, teachers and support staff have settled effortlessly and enthusiastically into the school year. I acknowledge and appreciate the many parents who are wearing masks around the school. I am thoroughly enjoying engaging with an empowered student councillor group who are eager to share their thoughts with me. The School Board and P&C have been pivotal in helping me understand the way Mount Hawthorn PS plans for the success of every student.
I would also like to welcome and introduce our new staff members, please see their photos below so that you recognise them around the school.
Teachers – Pre-primary Sara Ward Room 26, Year 3 Rosie Eaton Room 35, Sarah Druitt Room 31, Rebecca Miles Room 32, Year 5 Leeanne Geelhoed, Room 43 and Katelyn Robinson Room 44. Education Assistant – Debra Perry.
Admin – Manager Corporate Services – Traceyanne Mutua-Muasya, Front Office – Tiana Horlock, Michelle Middleton and Jaiyden Toquero.
Our newly elected Student Councillors were chosen by their peers at the end of Year 5 to ensure they could commence their roles from day one in 2022. We have hit the ground running already!
These Student Councillors will take on a range of leadership roles this semester, to promote the voice of the student body, solve problems and positively impact our community. They will serve as the voice for the entire student body and actively work with me to develop ways to promote a better learning environment.
They will also help share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns with me and at times Mr Harris, the Schools Board and P&C. In addition to meeting with me each week, you will see them on Fridays running our school assemblies.
Over the next couple of weeks I will be introducing them to all classes, so all students will know who they are.
I look forward to working with them this Semester to make a difference at our school.

Our Faction Captains will be working closely with each other to assist with the smooth running and organisation of sport events. These events include the school tennis tournament, daily tennis play at recess and lunch and all Friday sport lessons. Other duties include keeping the sports shed tidy and making sure all classrooms are supplied with appropriate sports equipment.
During Term 2, duties will involve winter sport organisation and faction footy leadership roles.
The Faction Captains have the added responsibility of leading their respective factions to the sports carnivals and being good role models and speaking at carnivals.

CANTEEN REOPENS NEXT WEEK
The Canteen have been busy preparing this week to welcome you back Monday 7 February for the year. We love online ordering and with the current situation ask that you please place your recess and lunch orders online via QuickCliq. If you do have to come to canteen in person, please remember to be COVID safe by checking in on Safe WA, wearing your mask, keeping physical distance and pay using EFTPOS where possible.
We are always looking for new volunteers, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help on a regular basis, or click here to sign up for a 1.5-2hr shift at a time and day that suits you.
Starting this term the Uniform shop will move to online orders only. The best way to order is using Qkr! Visit the School website for other ways to order. Order before 7pm on Tuesdays to have your order delivered to your child’s class on Wednesday.
We have had a busy lead up to the new school year, so thank you for your patience as we wait for new stock to be delivered.
VOLUNTEERING WITH THE P&C
Did you know that the P&C runs many services that help to make our school great including:
- A full time Canteen
- Uniform Shop
- Fundraising to support the school
- Planning and implementation of Grounds & Gardens improvement
- Safety initiatives including the Safety House program
There are many ways to get involved with the P&C. We are looking for a number of positions to be filled at our March AGM and there are plenty of ways to volunteer such as helping out at events or spending a couple of hours in the canteen.
P&C President Julia Wilcox and Vice-President Belinda Owen run regular coffee catch ups out the back of Leaf and Bean. Come down this Friday February 11 after school drop off to have a chat and find out more information. If you can’t make it at this time please get in touch with us. Visit the P&C page for our contact details.
