I would like to express my gratitude for the incredible farewell I have had, from the Graduation last night to the many messages from parents both past and present. The parent online card organised by the P&C was sensational and something I will always treasure. It has been an honour to work with this wonderful community over the past 15 years, and I thank you again for the trust you have placed in me as the Principal.
The announcement of the new Principal for Term 1 2022 will be made early in January 2022 and there will be an extensive handover in place.
The school has a COVID plan in place and all updated information and developments from The Education Department will be shared with the Schools Board and P&C during the break.
I wish all our families a safe and relaxing summer break. The children return to school for Term 1 on Monday 31 January 2022.
Spot the real Mr Mack. Thankyou for your efforts on the day, Mr Mack was blown away and very surprised!
Mount Hawthorn Primary School prioritises the role of good character and sound values in students, in addition to academic and emotional development.
For the first time, the Board is honouring a student who has demonstrated the values and virtues of the school throughout their Mount Hawthorn tenure.
The values of the school include: Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Being one’s best.
The winner of the Values and Virtues award is nominated with input from all year level teachers, all specialist teachers, and endorsed by the Board.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the first “Schools Board Award” recipient is Karenza Nottle.
Karenza greets teachers and peers with a smile, holds the gate open for others, and willingly offers assistance. She picks up litter on campus without being asked, and often in one’s own time. Last week Karenza volunteered to be a “secret elf” for all students in the class, not just one, and wrote notes and gave gifts to all peers.
Teachers from Kindy to Year 6 report that she has consistently worked to the best of her ability and injected maximum effort and perseverance into learning. In short, Karenza clearly upholds the values and virtues of Mount Hawthorn Primary School.
Congratulations, Karenza!
The Schools Board is delighted to announce the appointments of Julia Wilcox and Belinda Owen as parent representatives on the Board.
Julia and Belinda both bring extensive knowledge of school operations to the role, as well as professional skill sets, high energy and an inclusive approach.
Julia is the outgoing P&C President with a Masters in Organisational Development. She works in leadership development, employee engagement and inclusion and diversity. Additionally, she coaches for the WA Aboriginal Leadership Institute pro bono. Julia’s twin boys are entering Year 3 and her daughter is entering Year 5 in 2022.
Belinda is the outgoing P&C Vice President and has a Masters in Occupational Health and Safety. Belinda develops health and safety management systems and policies for educational settings. She is well versed in COVID protocols. Belinda’s sons are entering Year 2 and Year 5.
Please welcome Julia and Belinda to the Schools Board. We thank them for their eagerness to contribute.
Katharine Nash, Schools Board Chair

As the 2021 year draws close to the end… we sadly will be saying goodbye to 4 amazing Canteen Staff as their eldest graduates into high school. These ladies have dedicated their precious time over several years……
Shoni Lewis
Shoni has been volunteering every Tuesday for full days in the Canteen plus additional times when needed over the past 3 years. She also held the convenor role for at least 2 of the 3 years. She has held other roles including the Band. During Shoni’s time as Canteen Convenor, Shoni developed a working relationship with all Canteen staff and Volunteers, improved the day to day running of the Canteen operations and developed the Policies and Procedures for the Canteen…. Her love and devotion hasn’t stopped even after she moved on from the Convenor role including purchasing a piece of art from the Art Auction for the canteen to brighten up the space. We hope she may come back next year even if she no longer has a child in the school. We will certainly miss Shoni and her beautiful personality. We remain hopeful Shoni may still stick her head in every now and then as I’m sure she will miss the canteen demands.
Jodie Cumming
Jodie has been volunteering every Wednesday plus additional days when needed for over 4 years… she has been continuously making sandwiches, milo dough and more during this time. The time she has provided us during the past 4 years has been an enormous asset to the Canteen – staff and students. Jodie has continuously put her hands up for additional days when we needed help – all in a voluntary capacity. This included the NAIDOC week where the menu changed and required additional hands. We will miss the chats and laughs with Jodie.
Sarah Byrne
Sarah has been part of the Canteen team since February 2010. She has worked every Thursday and Fridays and casually when required including stepping up into Sarah Wiggett’s role when Sarah W has been away. Her dedication has been a significant asset to the School and P&C and will be sorely missed. We have been happy to report Sarah will still come in casually so hopefully you will still see her face every now and then.
Helen Adshead
Helen has been part of the Canteen since May 2015. She has been the hands on deck person – running around carrying out all the errands as well as pumping out the milo dough and the usual Thursday and Friday crazy lunch orders. Her bubbly personality and knowledge has been amazing.
Cultural Garden Busy Bee Thank you to all the families that helped at the busy bee Saturday 4 December and of course our P&C Grounds Sub-Committee Convener Travis Lithgo. Who knew there was so much rubble in such a small space! All the hard work has prepared the space for the new Cultural Garden being installed over the summer break. We can’t wait to see it!
The canteen will be closed the first week of Term 1 2022. It will be open from Monday 7 February 2022.
Call out for Canteen Volunteers in 2022 Mount Hawthorn PS is so lucky to have a full time canteen and it really is only possible because we have great volunteers. Sadly, we are losing a few regulars this year, and we are looking for new parents to take on a regular volunteering slot in 2022. Weekly, fortnightly, even every three weeks would be appreciated. We love our ad hoc volunteers and this is also an option but it’s the regulars that keep it going to the standard it currently operates at. If there is any chance at all that you might be able to help, please contact the P&C Canteen Subcommittee convener, Claudia – mhpspc.canteen@gmail.com for more information or to sign up to help. This will enable her to sort out a roster as soon as possible before the summer break. We would love to hear from you.
Orders can be placed via email mhps.uniforms@gmail.com or on Qkr and collected at the following times: Opening Shop times for January 2022 Monday 24 Jan 11.00 – 12.30pm Tuesday 25 January 2.30 – 4.00pm Friday 28 January 8.00am – 9.30am For further information and Order Forms click HERE
