We really enjoyed another swimming carnival. From my perspective it’s all about seeing kids competing well, being good winners and good losers and the overall atmosphere was about having fun. I appreciate the efforts of all our staff including Mrs Putt, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Townsend and also the many parent volunteers. A special thank you to all the kids – you did Mount Hawthorn proud! Mrs Townsend has written a great wrap up of the day (read here).
I realise there was hold up with the buses returning from the Swimming Carnival, if there are delays in the future, that we are made aware of, we will inform parents through the school text message system.
Scotty L from Year 4 has been selected to compete in the Little Athletics State Championships and will be competing in High Jump and 70m over the weekend of 20/21 March 2021.
On Tuesday the 2 March, we did a cookie stall. We had a variety of cookies including, sprinkle, mini M+M and choc chip etc. We raised money for telethon and the dogs refuge. This is because telethon supports a range of different hospital causes for kids. We also raised for the dog refuge because we all think the dogs should be treated with care and that they should all belong to a family. we raised $250 dollars and they will each be getting $125. It took 2 weeks of preparation we hope that all the money will be used wisely.

On Sunday 21 March we are co-hosting the Canines of Cambridge fun day at Beecroft Park in City Beach to raise funds for the Shenton Park Dogs Refuge. If you are interested in baking homemade dog treats for us to give away while we are rattling tins for donations. (There are recipes on line, including vegetarian options) I am available to collect the treats on Friday 19 March if required.

HARMONY DAY – FRIDAY 19 MARCH
Next Friday is the day we recognise Harmony Week at Mount Hawthorn Primary School. Harmony week, “Everyone Belongs” is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. We celebrate our country’s cultural diversity. On this day we encourage all students to wear a national costume or an item of clothing that is orange (orange is the official colour of Harmony Day. Traditionally, the colour orange is associated with social communication and stimulating two-way conversations. A warm and inviting colour, it motivates people to think and have a meaningful talk).
Some of our classes will do buddy activities with their classes to promote this special week. There will be no whole school parade but some year levels may do their own mini parades. If possible we ask parents to provide a gold coin donation on Friday. This money will go to various worthwhile charities including our Bali Sister School, which will help provide them with much needed food parcels.
MOBILE PHONE POLICY
Last week our parent liaisons would have sent you a copy of our updated school mobile phone policy ATTACHED. Please read through and then discuss it with your child. It is important all students understand the consequences should they breach the rules in relation to use at school. Please note this policy was developed to complement high school policies.
VISITORS ON SCHOOL PREMISES POLICY
The safety and wellbeing of students in our care at Mount Hawthorn Primary School is our priority and commitment. All schools are required to comply with the Department’s Visitors on School Premises Policy. Parents are not required to sign in when dropping or picking their child up during the normal school drop off/pick up times. If you arrive at a different time or you are not here for that reason you are required to firstly present at the front office and sign in. It is important we know who is on our school site and why. We thank you for your support of this.
