THE MANY COLOURS OF BELONGING
Fair Skin Black Fella by Renee Fogorty
Pre-primary Room 25 is reading a book called “Fair Skin Black Fella” by Renee Fogorty.
It is about an Aboriginal child, Mary, who isn’t accepted by the other Aboriginal children because her skin is lighter than theirs. The community elder, Old Ned, teaches the girls that “it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, however you feel in your heart and soul is what matters.”
He explains to the girls that Mary is indeed a fair skin black fella.
Therefore, the theme of our door is “The Many Colours of Belonging.”
