Congratulations to our next lot of Super Mathletes! These students have achieved the most points in Mathletics across their year level from Weeks 1-5 this term. They received a certificate of achievement and a trophy, which they will display in their classroom until it is passed on to the next Super Mathlete.
Year 1 – Emma B, Year 2 – Mitchell R, Year 3 – Amelia C, Year 4 – Greta C, Year 5 – Alex S and Year 6 – Ben B
This year some of our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the APSMO Maths Olympiad. The Maths Olympiad is a competition made up of a series of difficult maths problems completed over a period of 5 months. Thirty six students took part in this year’s Olympiad and gave up their time after school to challenge themselves. Every student who took part in the Olympiad should be extremely proud of the effort they put in. I would like to congratulate the following students who scored highly in the Olympiad and were presented with a medal at a recent assembly.
Georgia G – Best in Year 5
Zeke T, Samuel P and Cuba B – Best in the School and Year 6
Calloway B – Runner Up Best in Year 6
The Maths Olympiad will be taking place again in 2021 for any Year 5 or 6 students who are keen to take on the challenge.
Sarah Kalebic, Maths Coordinator
We received the following note from the Mount Hawthorn RSL:
A big thank-you to the Mt Hawthorn Primary School community for their wonderful support of this year’s Poppy Day Appeal. We are very grateful for your generosity towards the welfare of our returned services personnel, both young and old, who are the beneficiaries of the funds raised by this appeal.
We are also grateful to the RSL for restoring our poppy on the ANZAC wall to its original condition, which will age to match the other elements over time.
Acceptance and Provision of Gifts Policy and Procedures
The Department of Education requires all employees to observe the highest standards of integrity, ethics and probity in relation to the acceptance and provision of gifts during the course of their employment with the Department. Staff are required to report any gifts received with a value greater than $100.00. In simple terms, to clarify, staff are allowed to receive gifts with total value of more than $100.00 but are simply just required to advise a member of school administration who will assist process of recording. There is no expectation from staff and we understand that finances may be a challenge for many families.
Music Under the Stars Families are invited to enjoy some magnificent music presented by the talented students from Mount Hawthorn PS, including the band stars from Jolimont PS, Kyilla PS and Maylands Peninsula PS. At Mount Hawthorn Primary School on Wednesday 2 December 2020 commencing at 4.30pm (no tickets required).
The P&C will be running a sausage sizzle and we’d love your help. Volunteer signup is HERE
CAROLS IN THE PARK
The Annual Christmas carols in Braithwaite Park, Mount Hawthorn are happening again this year on Sunday 13 December, commencing at 6.30pm. Our School Choir will start the proceedings by singing four items. Come early with your friends and a picnic to enjoy singing along to some of the lovely songs of Christmas. Carols booklets and candles will be available and if you would like to make a gold coin donation for these, the proceeds will go to the chaplaincies at Mount Lawley and Churchlands Senior High Schools. This is a COVID safe event so please remember to stay home if you are unwell, maintain social distancing by leaving a gap between your picnic blanket and the next, wash your hands or sanitise regularly and download the COVID SAFE App.
It is that time of year again, where Santa’s post office is getting ready to open for business. Room 10 will be taking on the big job of Pixie Post this year. Children are encouraged to write a cheery positive Christmas message to other students in the school.
In Week 9 (Monday 7 – Friday 11 December) we will be collecting, sorting and delivering Pixie Post to all the classrooms around our school. This will be done after Junior Recess (11:00am) so be sure to post your letters first thing in the morning. Please see our guidelines for Pixie Post to ensure those beautiful messages are delivered.
In clear handwriting please label the front of your envelopes with the recipient’s name and room number. Please do not use any fancy handwriting as it makes it tricky for our postal workers to read.
Nothing extra should be included in or on the envelopes, we need our packages to stay flat and compact. This means no lollies, rubbers, bracelets, or gifts of any kind.
Mailbox will be outside the Harbeck Centre.
From the P&C
The Uniform Shop is now open to all parents and guardians. Our opening hours remain the unchanged, Tuesday afternoons 2.15pm – 3.20pm.
Online QKR orders are still available and will continue to be delivered to the students classroom Tuesday afternoons by our fabulous Year 4 helpers.
The Mountain Goats wrapped up our year’s activities with the 4th edition of the Camp Out. Fortunately the often heavy rain did nothing to dampen spirits, despite some wet children and leaking tents. Thanks to everyone for making it such a memorable event in the circumstances.
We’d love to hear from some Dads who would like to get involved in planning and organising our events. It’s great fun and we’d love some fresh ideas and energy. If you are interested in taking part, please drop us a line on email@example.com
A big thank you to the Floreat Lions Club for their recent donation to the P&C of $5448. This generous donation will enable the canteen to have a new oven and steel benchtops! The MHPS school canteen is not-for-profit so this donation is most greatly appreciated. In 2021, there will be a student population of around 927 children, so having this upgrade will enable the canteen to continue their efforts to efficiently service the school.
The Floreat Lions Club have been an ongoing supporter of MHPS and the P&C over many years. Their work however cannot continue unless they attract new members from our community (with parents and friends of schools an important demographic).
Floreat Lions Club are always looking for members to continue its work. They have been a BIG part of the community for 40 years, however without additional members their future looks less certain. Club Contacts are here:

Our school’s front entrance is getting a makeover and we at the P&C are giving families an opportunity to be a part of this by launching the ‘Buy A Brick’ Fundraiser. Have your family go down in history as a sponsor of the ‘Killarney Street Entrance’ paving work by purchasing a personalised paver to be laid as a feature within this project. Work will be commencing soon and these personalised pavers will be retrofitted once the main layout is finalised.
All you need to do is complete THIS FORM (print single sided please) and return to the school by Thursday 10 December.
As always, we thank you for your support and look forward to being able to share this new ‘walk of fame’ with you. **** Have you donated to the Buy a Brick Fundraiser?***
If you have please make sure you complete the transaction by dropping your form into the Box at the front office. We cannot engrave your bricks without these forms.
