Bob Hawke College Orientation Day
From the Principal
Within my role as Principal at Mount Hawthorn Primary I have some really terrific weeks, and this one has been a highlight. We celebrated Remembrance Day and the history of this great community and also NAIDOC Week which recognises the 65,000 year history of The Wadjuk people and their links to the land and Mount Hawthorn. I was incredibly proud of the students and student leaders through both of these assemblies. I’m also so proud of our team and the way they have embraced the NAIDOC message with the art and stories decorating the classroom doors. Our school is leading the way in terms of Reconciliation through the wider Mount Hawthorn community. Talk to your children about what they are learning at school as it’s really important that we continue to make these connections.
The stunning designs of the NAIDOC shirts being worn by the staff and also some of our Indigenous students and student leaders, after consultation with the School Board and P&C Uniform Shop, will hopefully be available for all students to wear on a Wednesday or Friday next year if parents would like to purchase them. These shirts were designed by our students with Danika Eades, who is a proud Noongar woman and also an incredibly talented artist, and they represent the Mount Hawthorn story. Danika will also be working with some students to create a mural on the outside of the undercover area, which will kick start the process of renaming some of the facilities at our school.
Congratulations to the winning classes:
Year 1 Room 12 with Special mention to Pre-primary Room 25
Year 4 Room 30 with special mention to Year 6 Room 18
Be sure to take a look at all the fabulous classroom doors next week and visit our school website as we continue to add new pictures and videos.
Week 6 is parent open week which provides an opportunity for parents to visit the classrooms to view their children’s fantastic work. Teachers will have the classrooms open in the mornings and some afternoons. We can only allow up to 8 parents per classroom at one time due to phase 4 restrictions. This is an opportunity to see the incredible work being done from Year 1 to Year 6. The orchestra will be playing on Tuesday morning, the choir will perform on Wednesday morning and the band on Thursday morning, during their normal rehearsal times. We would love to see many parents visit during this week to see the wonderful work that is happening around the school.
EDUDANCE CONCERTS 2020
The scheduling and delivery of Edudance concerts this year is guided by COVID Phase 4 restrictions for schools. We are providing smaller concerts (3 to 4 classes) throughout Week 9/10 to showcase a variety of class dances across the school. It will be hosted in our school Hangar and parent audience numbers will be restricted to 2 members per student. Please see class concert dates and times here. CONCERT SCHEDULE
BE YOU SURVEY
Be You Surveys empower all members of your learning community – educators, families, children and young people – to share their voice about mental health and wellbeing. Information gathered can help highlight strengths to build on and areas for improvement.
We would appreciate as many families as possible to complete THIS SHORT SURVEY for us by the end of November.
Healthy family relationships and safe and supportive home environments are central to children and young people’s development and wellbeing. There is some helpful information in this brochure.

FAMILY FUN DAY 2020
Wow! I hope you had as much fun as we did on the fun day. With so many families coming to enjoy the day, it was lovely to see a sea of smiling faces and so many kids and adults having a fun and relaxing afternoon.
A huge thank you to our Year 5 and 6 volunteers, who did an excellent job overseeing the games. A massive thank you to the adult volunteers who ably assisted with everything and to the school for letting us hold a fun day in place of a fair.
The final thanks is to the committee, without a dedicated committee of volunteers an event like this wouldn’t happen. Thank you to Sonia Siamos, Shoni Lewis, Mary Gwynne, Rhona Smith, Kira Sparrow, Sarah Trevillian, Tasha Hawkins, Julia Wilcox, Amy Pontague, Karen Kerlin, Michelle Loffler, Tash Spon-Smith, Belinda Owen, Rachelle Rose , Liz Tilmouth, Scott Yelland, Debra Harkness, Tee Dellar-Pratt, Sarah Brown, Fiona Lawe-Davies and Sally Herbert.
Pre-primary 2021 Uniform Orders
This week each Kindy classroom received a sample box of school uniforms for your children to try on and order for 2021 Pre-primary. Order forms are due to be returned to your classroom in the next 2 weeks and any orders placed will be delivered to your child’s Kindy classroom. We will also be open on the Pre-primary orientation days to purchase uniform orders.
Canteen Seeking New Regular Volunteers for 2021
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the school. It’s a lovely environment to be in and you get a great insight into what happens at lunch and recess! We are looking for people who can commit to a regular weekly or fortnightly volunteer position in the canteen. Ideally 9.00am – 1.30pm. If you think you might be interested, please email which days you are available to Julia at email@example.com by Friday 27 November. Feel free to email or call 0407 472 878 for further information.
BUY A BRICK
Our school’s front entrance is getting a makeover and we at the P&C are giving families an opportunity to be a part of this by launching the ‘Buy A Brick’ Fundraiser. Have your family go down in history as a sponsor of the ‘Killarney Street Entrance’ paving work by purchasing a personalised paver to be laid as a feature within this project. Work will be commencing soon and these personalised pavers will be retrofitted once the main layout is finalised. All you need to do is complete this form and return to the school by Thursday 10 December. As always, we thank you for your support and look forward to being able to share this new ‘walk of fame’ with you.
Enjoy ‘Connells family bakery’ delicious Lamingtons and support the school at the same time. Order a 6 pack of these delightful treats by 9.00am Thursday 10 December and collect them from the Undercover area on Wednesday 16 December between 8:15am – 9.00am. Place your order on QKr (no need to complete the order form) or complete this order form and place it in the ‘Lamington box’ at the front office.
