Congratulations to our next lot of Super Mathletes! These students have achieved the most gold bars in Mathletics across their year level from Weeks 6-10 last term. They received a certificate of achievement and a trophy, which they will display in their classroom until it is passed on to the next Super Mathlete.

On Saturday 24 October, 2 Mount Hawthorn Primary School teams competed in the Have Sum Fun Maths Competition at Aranmore Catholic College. Representing our Year 6 team was Lily B, Harisen C, Sam P, Alison T, Cooper P and Zeke T. Our Year 5 team was represented by Will P, Matthew H, Prince T, James L, Georgia G and Phoebe J. These students raced against the clock to solve four rounds of eight challenging maths problems and were up against 6 teams from various schools. Some of our parents even had a go at solving some of the maths questions themselves. The competition was extremely close the whole way through. Our Year 6 team came in 3rd and our Year 5 team placed 6th. I would like to thank the students involved for their efforts and for giving up their Saturday afternoon, especially with the AFL Grand Final on at the same time! You did Mount Hawthorn Primary School proud.

Last Friday was the grand final of the Year 6 Tennis Tournament. The standard that these competitors, Mabel and Michael and Georgia and Xavier displayed was exceptional as well as their sportsmanship. Congratulations to the winners Mabel and Michael who won narrowly after 3 sets. Thank you to our fabulous MC for the day Mr T and our main umpires, Lucas and Wynn and all our lines people who contributed to the running of the game.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Announcement of Elections 23 October 2020
Applications Due 06 November 2020
Election Period 09 – 13 November 2020
The Schools Board is key in shaping the strategic direction of the school, adding value to programs and ensuring that the community’s values are integrated into decision making.
We are calling for expressions of interest from parents for membership to the Schools Board for 2021-2022. Parent representatives bring a broad range of skills and experiences earned through work, family and community involvement to support MHPS and MHESC. There are currently two parent vacancies for a two year term commencing on the first day of Term 1, 2021.
We encourage you to consider sharing your experience, energy and time with MHPS in this capacity. Additional information on the role of parent representatives on the Schools Board is available on the school website, and through conversations with the Board Chair, Katharine Nash (Nash.Katharine@gmail.com, 0484 646 368) and/or Principal Mackesey (Dale.Mackesey@education.wa.edu.au).
Online voting for the two new parent representatives to the Schools Board is open from Monday, 09 November to Friday, 13 November. Every MHPS registered parent/carer will receive an email on Monday, 9 November with the link to the online election ‘survey’ and a unique voting code. (If you do not have an email address registered with the school, please contact MHPS administration for alternative voting arrangements).
We look forward to hearing your voice in the election, and possibly through an expression of interest in the Board vacancy.
Instrumental Expressions of Interest will be emailed out during week 4 to students in Years 2, 3 and 4 for students who have been selected as part of the instrumental program in 2021.
If your child receives a letter, please consider the commitment carefully. If your child is not selected but is keen to pursue music, then private tuition is an option and students can still be part of the band or orchestra.
Offers have been made according to results from the music aptitude indicator, attitude, interest shown in music and ability to commit to the time required to learn an instrument in a group lesson.
