The students are loving being part of EDUDANCE again. We are still in COVID Stage 4 restrictions and the school is looking at all possible alternatives for the class dance presentations at the end of the year. Further information about the structure of the concerts and the way parents will be able to view their child’s performance will be communicated as soon as this is confirmed.
At a Liaison Parent meeting early last year Melissa Platt highlighted the need for a CROSSWALK on Scarborough Beach Road, which we have attempted to implement in previous years. I am pleased to announce that due to Melissa’s tenacious battling with the paperwork, her efforts have resulted in the delivery of a Type A Crosswalk recommended for the area at the bottom of Killarney Street.
The MUSIC FINALE CONCERT “A night Under the Stars” will be held on Wednesday 2 December at our School Oval (I can assure you it will rain on that afternoon/night!) to celebrate our excellent music program.
The PRE-PRIMARY SPORTS DAY will be held on the school oval on Monday 2 November from 12.00pm – 3.00pm. Pre-primary parents are welcome to watch, however children will return to classrooms to be collected at the end of the school day. Remember to send hats and apply sunscreen and students wear Faction T-Shirts.
Our new OUTDOOR CLASSROOM playground adjacent to the ESC is looking fantastic but it has not been officially opened yet as we are currently in the process of handover from the construction team to ensure it is safe and all details are addressed.
A big thank you to the P&C also for the NEW TIGER TURF at the Pre-primary area, it’s looking great and the children are enjoying their outdoor learning and play.
All children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character on Friday 23 October. This year the theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.
The school will be holding Mini parades within Year levels/hubs sometime during the school morning. We will celebrate and enjoy with the students.
Overall it is not a public event but we will encourage staff to send pictures and will also cover the various activities the in the newsletter, however we acknowledge for our early childhood students this is a significant event and with some modifications to be communicated shortly parents will be able to attend.
Perisse Pitsikas – Associate Principal
When our Principal, Mr Dale Mackesey, was appointed to Mount Hawthorn Primary School 14 years ago, it was as a Level 5 Principal as the school was classified by the Department of Education as a Level 5 school. Since then MHPS has grown significantly and is well above the Level 6 classification of 700 students or more. During that time of growth, Mr Mackesey has maintained his Level 5 Principal status.
It is Mr. Mackesey’s wish, with the support of the School’s Board and the approval of the Department of Education, to advertise the MHPS Principal position as a Level 6 role and invite candidates to apply.
Mr. Mackesey will apply for the position and welcomes a rigorous, transparent evaluation process.
The selection process will commence in Term 4 of 2020 and the successful candidate confirmed and in role for Term 1, 2021. The selection panel will include representatives from the Department of Education’s regional office, principals from similar schools, and the MHPS Board Chair.
Finally, the Board wishes to confirm that it has full confidence in Mr. Mackesey as principal of Mount Hawthorn, and is proceeding with this process at his request.
Yours sincerely
Katharine Nash, Board Chair
Do you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to one or both of our Schools? If so, the Board’s Commendation Scheme will be of interest to you. The Commendation Scheme is designed to recognise: “exceptional, outstanding or meritorious conduct or service that significantly impacts on and/or benefits the operations and/or activities of either or both of the Schools.” A Board Commendation consists of a beautiful certificate and can be awarded to students, teachers and staff of the Schools and/or parents and/or members of the community. A Commendation can also be awarded to a group of students or staff etc.
You can nominate someone for the Board’s consideration using the Commendation Nomination form available on the school website.
2020 Nominations must be received by Friday 6 November to Nash.Katharine@gmail.com
Mount Hawthorn Primary School has joined the Containers for Change scheme. This is a system where your bottles and containers can be recycled, and you can also make money for our school.
If every one of us deposits 10 bottles per month that is equivalent to $10,572 per year for our school. Imagine how much sporting equipment, stationary or coding kits we could get for that!
It is great we can get funding for the school for unwanted plastic bottles and cans, but it’s even better because we are helping the environment too!
Our collection bins will be located at various locations around the school, for now they are inside the new front wall.
For more information check our school website.
