This is always a colourful and exciting event. The theme for this year is “Reading is My Secret Power” and we encourage the students to think creatively about what this represents. Books support imagination, inspiration and innovation.
We have all read a book with a character that has inspired us or empowered us to be or try something new and different. Your child may have been inspired to be a soccer player, underwater explorer, spy or a magician through their favourite book and this may guide their costume selection.
We look forward to seeing these “Secret Powers” during our parade on Friday 23 August 2019.
SOCIAL MEDIA USE
This is a timely reminder to parents/carers not to share any images on social media that include any of our students, as not all parents have provided permission for their child’s image or name to be published. Any sharing of a student’s image or name without the appropriate consent could lead to legal action.
Reminder to bring in your bag for book collection.
Thanks for the great response to Issue 5. Over 600 books were ordered and are on their way to the school for distribution!
To make distributing the books to the children MUCH easier and to reduce plastic, we are asking those who ordered to bring in your RE-USABLE BOOK BAGS ASAP.
Please LABEL them with your child’s name, year, room number and drop it off at the library. Donations of spare re-usable bags are also welcome!

TOURNAMENT OF MINDS
This year Mount Hawthorn Primary has entered Tournament Of Minds. Our team is made up of students from Year 5 and 6. The students are working collaboratively to solve two STEM related challenges. The first is a long term challenge that students have been busily working towards finding a solution, this has included creating costumes, concepts and a song. The second is a surprise challenge that will be revealed to the students on competition day. The regional competition will be held at Edith Cowan University Joondalup on Saturday 31 August. Our team will be participating in the afternoon session.
Go Mount Hawthorn!

WEST OZ WILDLIFE
On Monday 12 August the Pre-primary students had a visit from West Oz Wild life. There was Yappy the dingo, Scar the snake, Juda the koala, Bob the bobtail lizard and the Bluey the bluetongue lizard. We loved it!

School Sports WA (SSWA)
A great day at the Perth Hockey Stadium with MHPS (Year 5 and 6) fielding a team of 10 (UWA and Mods Hockey club players) for a modified all day round robin (8 game) competition.
A big shout out and thanks to Coaches Marcus (Cass K) and Simon (Harrison F) for providing a pre-tournament training session on turf at UWAHC, and for awesome on the day coaching and umpiring and to Chrissie (Cass K) for her great team management.
Thanks to all the fans (parents) in the stands on the day and to teachers for providing students the opportunity to represent the school in a strong competition.
It was great to see the team go head to head on the turf with both metro and regional primary schools.
All in all 16 schools represented in the comp and MHPS team placed a very respectable 2nd place in their pool and overall came in winning third place.
Well done to all involved.
