OUR SWIMMING SUPERSTARS WIN INTER SCHOOL HAT-TRICK!
On Wednesday 10 April the Mighty Mount Hawthorn swimming machine won the Inter school Carnival.
Congratulations All Schools Champions Georgia G Year 4 and Sam P Year 5 – Runner-up Year 5 Harry E.
We have a strong values and virtues program here at MHPS and it is always pleasing to see the students demonstrate these in many ways and in many situations. Our focus in the past weeks in line with our WES priority has been litter and keeping our school and learning environments free of litter. Our two recipients of Aussie of the Month are two Year 1 students who were acknowledged as “Having a continuous commitment to keeping our school litter free with always finding and collecting litter when playing in the playground and transitioning around the school”.
Well done to Kira H (Rm 01) and Annabella CB (Rm 10).
We are so proud of your sense of community and respect for our school. The students were awarded and presented with a certificate and badge in recognition of their efforts.
Lorena Rock – Acting Principal

LAKE MONGER EXCURSION
As part of the Year 2 HASS program, all the Year 2 classes have visited Lake Monger over the last week. We have been learning about the historical and cultural significance of the lake and its surrounds, to the indigenous people of the area and to the early European settlers. As an abundant source of freshwater and wildlife, the lake has been used and misused over time and it has undergone enormous changes in the past one hundred years. We have looked at the impact of human habitation around the lake and the need to conserve and preserve our natural environments.

COMPOST WHEN YOU CAN!
Try composting at home to convert your kitchen scraps and garden clippings into compost to fertilise your plants and enrich your soil. By composting kitchen scraps you can give nutrients to your garden, cut down on solid waste (household rubbish), conserve water and reduce wastewater disposal (water down the drain).
MOORT – FAMILY
Noongar people, come to know their connection to Country through their moort (family). Many Aboriginal customs and stories have been passed on through their moort.
