Nomination Forms Submitted: 1 MARCH – 8 MARCH 2019
Election Period (If required): 14 MARCH – 29 MARCH 2019
We will soon be calling for expressions of interest for membership to the Schools Board for 2019-2020. The Schools Board is integral in shaping the strategic direction of the school and ensuring that the core values and beliefs of the community are integrated into our decision making.
This year we are looking to fill four parent vacancies and encourage applications from all interested parents who would like to contribute their experience, energy and time to the role. Parent representatives bring a broad range of skills and experiences earned through work, family and community involvement. Board representation is an opportunity for parents to be a part of the implementation of the Business Plan, as well as add value to existing school programs.
The term of office for Board members is two years commencing on the first day of Term 2. The Board is made up of the principals of both the Primary School and Education Support Centre, seven parent representatives, five staff representatives, and possibly one community representative.
The Mount Hawthorn Schools Board was established in 2012 after the Primary School and Education Support Centre gained the status of Independent Public Schools. The Board is a joint schools board and is governed by the School Education Act 1999 and its “Terms of Reference“. The Board helps the schools deliver a quality education experience for our children by:
Establishing and reviewing the goals, priorities and policies of the schools;
Planning and approving school budgets;
Evaluating the performance of our schools, and
Promoting our schools within the community.
We encourage broad participation from our school community in its leadership. If you would like more information on the role of parent representative on the Schools Board, please get in touch with one of the three names listed below. We also invite nominees to attend our upcoming Board meeting on Wednesday 13 March 2019 or attend a Sub-Committee meeting.
John Siamos – Board Chair
Dale Mackesey – Mount Hawthorn Primary School Principal
