Enjoy the holidays, as well as keeping cosy and warm your homework is to catch and throw a ball with your children and encourage them to do lots of running to prepare for a busy Athletics Program in Term 3. Go outside and run, run, run, climb trees and have fun! I’m looking forward to an action packed second semester.
A reminder to parents that Monday 16 July is a School Development Day, students return to school for the commencement of Term 3 on Tuesday 17 July 2018.
On Tuesday 19 June the school Faction Footy grand final between Shakespeare and Braithwaite took place on the school oval. Under the threat of rain the game continued and Braithwaite came out on top. Congratulations to both teams on their fantastic sportsmanship.
Our Year 6 students will be competing in the Interschool Winter Carnival playing netball, Soccer, Football or Modcrosse next Thursday at various locations. We wish them the best of luck!
We are once again seeing illegal parking in Matlock Street at school drop off and pick-up times. The City Of Vincent rangers will be increasing school patrols until the end of term. Walk to school when you can, park in streets a little further away (Coogee, Flinders, Kalgoorlie Streets), use the new Kiss and Ride facility and always obey traffic markings. Do the right thing, keep everyone safe and avoid a fine.
Over the past 2 years I have been observing the development of our Cross Country Program and Athletics Carnivals. Raf Baugh, one of our Mount Hawthorn parents who provides the Trackstars Program, has developed in our students a culture of participation and achieving personal best, with many of our students really improving their times. This was reflected in the overall results at the carnival yesterday. Raf donates his time and expertise and it is an absolute pleasure to observe his interaction with the students.
I would also acknowledge Mrs Kenny and Mrs Putt, who gave up their time on cold Tuesday mornings to coach the Cross Country team at Menzies Park.
Our Year 3 to 6 team competed at City Beach Oval yesterday.
These were the top 4 results from 10 teams:
Wembley Downs – 4th place 176 points, Mount Hawthorn – 3rd place 182 points, Floreat – 2nd place 227 points and Wembley – 1st place 274
Individual achievements: Claudia – Year 4 girls placed 4th and Aya – Year 6 girls placed 3rd.
Well done to all competitors as it was certainly a fantastic team effort to finish 3rd.

Mr McKenzie will be returning to school after an extended period of leave and he is looking forward to once again working with the class next term.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of Mrs Burton who has enjoyed a wonderful semester with the students.
We are investigating the possibility of setting up a lego building space in the undercover area at lunchtimes. We envisage this will provide a learning opportunity for children especially when the wet weather arrives.
If you have lego or any other board games you would be happy to donate for classroom use please email Vicki Roberts so we can make an assessment of the resources available for this program.
This Friday, 22 June at 3.15pm we need some parents to help us install some tiger turf, tidy up the nature strip and relocate some playground equipment on our campus. If you can spare an hour and have any equipment (wheelbarrow and /or gardening equipment) to bring it would be very much appreciated. If you can help out please email Vicki Roberts
I encourage all parents complete this biannual Parent Survey by Monday 16 July, which will be used as part of the ongoing school review process. The information will be compared to previous survey results, shared with the school community and inform planning with the Schools Board.
The school will also be surveying both staff and students as part of our annual school review process. I appreciate your ongoing support.
“Waste Free Wednesdays” are coming to our school in Term 3!
We encourage Waste Free Lunches. On Wednesdays students are trying to be totally WASTE FREE! Any packaging, cling-wrap, alfoil and waste in general that comes to school will go home with them.
Over the school holidays become WASTE FREE WARRIORS with your children and research the best ways to reduce waste. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink.
Thanks Mrs Lewis-Russell and the MHPS Sustainability team.
All schools in Australia participate in the annual national collection of data on students with disability. The broad categories of disability are physical, cognitive, sensory and social/emotional. Students who have adjustments to their learning, or are supported at school are included in the data collection.
Schools and education authorities use the data to assist their planning to meet the needs of students.
For more detailed information please see parent fact sheets or FAQ’s or visit their website.
Parents are reminded that students arriving late or leaving early must be signed in or out by a parent/caregiver. Students may not sign themselves in or out.
School Photos for Pre-primary to Year 6 will be taken on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 June 2018. Kindy photos will be taken on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 September 2018.

Sunday saw 200 MHPS families come together to see the Incredibles 2 at Event Cinemas. The kids had a brilliant time with their friends and it was fantastic to see a full cinema of people we knew. It was a great movie and raised over $600!
Congratulations to Mel Simpson and Caroline Rusden who won the matching incredibles Peter Alexander pyjamas. Thank you to the P&C for another great event.
