SCHOOL BOARD
REPRESENTATIVES
I am pleased to announce that John Siamos is the new Chair of the Schools Board and Katharine Nash has taken on the Executive Secretary role. Both John and Katherine bring a great deal of expertise and energy to the positions. I would like to thank the outgoing Chair, Michael Jenkin, for an outstanding contribution since the schools became Independent and also acknowledge Alex Castle and Tina Watkins who have retired from the Board. We are very pleased they are continuing to share their expertise as co-opted members of our Schools Board Sub-committees.
YEAR 6 CAMP
I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6 camp at Woodman Point. It was full of activities and students represented our school magnificently. I would like to thank the staff members who gave up their time to attend and stay late and/or overnight. Thanks also to the parents who volunteered to man the stations to make it so enjoyable for everyone.
P&C DONATION
I would like to thank the P&C for the $35 000 contribution to be used for Curriculum Support. This will be used across all areas including Library, Mathematics and English to provide invaluable resources.
PARENT SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY
I encourage all parents complete this biannual Parent Survey which will be used as part of the ongoing school review process. The information will be compared to previous survey results, shared with the school community and inform planning with the Schools Board.
Families at Mount Hawthorn Primary School are recognised as integral members of the school community and partners in their children’s education. We will also be offering further shorter surveys targeting specific topics with an opportunity for parents to comment.
The school will also be surveying both staff and students as part of our annual school review process. I appreciate your ongoing support.
KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE
Please take care when exiting Killarney Street, turning left onto Scarborough Beach Road. For families crossing Scarborough Beach Road near the corner of Killarney Street the safest option is to use the footbridge.
Pedestrians crossing Matlock Street near the intersection of Woodstock Street must give way to vehicles, including traffic turning from Woodstock onto Matlock Street.

Thanks for your wonderful support – our school community raised $1720.00 for Cystic Fibrosis.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
School Photos for Pre-primary to Year 6 will be taken on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 June 2018. Kindy photos will be taken on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 September 2018.
Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a Kapture Photography order envelope to bring home. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. If you pay online, there is no need to return the order envelope to school. Click HERE for more information
QKR APP
As of 6 June some of the older versions of the Qkr app will no longer work, and families must update their app. Most people have auto update enabled in their phone settings so this will happen seamlessly. If your app has stopped working, you simply have to download the current version from the app store. For further information https://qkr.mastercard.com/store/
SCHOOL BATTERY COLLECTION
Out Battery Recycling bin in the Harbeck will be emptied on Monday 18 June 2018. You may recycle any household dry cell batteries including AA, AAA (single use or rechargeable), C, D, button batteries, 9V and 6V.
FATHERING PROJECT AMAZING RACE
The Fathering Project’s Amazing Race around Mount Hawthorn took place on Sunday 3 June. We had a brilliant time in some sensational late Autumn weather and hope that everyone who came along did too. Despite having about 70 teams (initial estimates had been for about 30) and a total of around 200 participants, things went pretty smoothly and we had no reports of anyone getting permanently lost!
A big shout out to the day’s MC Vincent mayor Emma Cole for being a great sport and giving so much of her time. Thanks to John Carey for donating and handing out prizes and to the City of Vincent for sponsoring the event.
Thanks also to all the local businesses and community organisations who took part and without whom the event would not have been possible.

APPLICATIONS FOR ENROLMENT ARE NOW OPEN
You must apply to enrol your child in a public school for 2019 if they are:
- starting Kindergarten – 4 years old by 30 June 2019
- starting Pre-primary (first year of compulsory school) – 5 years old by 30 June 2019
- changing schools.
Mount Hawthorn Primary School is a local intake school and can only accept students in our local catchment area for Pre-primary to Year 6. In Kindergarten, priority is given to local intake students and will only accommodate outside boundary students if capacity allows.
Parents can download an application for enrolment to submit to the school with proof of residential address (for example: utilities account, lease agreement) and a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Parents will be notified of the outcome of their application later in the year.
You are not required to complete an Application for Enrolment for Pre-primary if your child is currently enrolled in Kindergarten at Mount Hawthorn Primary School and you plan to stay at this school for Pre-primary. We will request Proof of Address in Term 4.

BRAND NEW SCHOOL TAKING SHAPE IN SUBIACO
Inner City College (planning name), the brand new secondary school in subiaco, is beginning to take shape and will open for Year 7 children in 2020.
Mr John Burke has been appointed foundation principal and will start in July. work on the site has begun with building expected to commence in July. It’s an exciting time.

From the P&C
UNIFORM SHOP
Friday 1 June was not only a pupil free day but uniform shop transformation day. The shop was emptied, new shelving and cupboards installed and the shop restocked. Thank you to all the volunteers on the day. The “7.00am crew” – Chris, Matt, Wes, Jared, Mark, Nathan and Jeremy. Fuelled by coffee, they emptied the uniform shop in 15 minutes. A very big thank you to Emma who helped Karen and I reinstate the shop over the entire morning. Emma also volunteers her time to help Karen in the uniform shop every Tuesday. Thanks team!

The uniform shop has MHPS golf umbrellas for $30.00. Grab yours on Tuesday and be well prepared for the wet weather.
SCHOOL BANKING TERM 2
School Banking is run on Tuesday mornings from 8:15 to 8:45am in the Harbeck Library. New rewards are available to be ordered for Term 2. This year, one lucky school banker will win a family trip to Hawaii. To enter, students need to make 15 or more school banking deposits before the end of Term 3. For more information click HERE.
