There was a fantastic atmosphere at the carnival and our Faction Captains led their factions magnificently. The competition was as hot as the day and the sportspersonship really set the tone for the day.
A great deal of organisation goes into the day and Mrs Putt, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Townsend certainly made sure it ran smoothly. The staff and many parent volunteers worked with a smile in very noisy conditions and made sure everyone had a great day full of many memories.
Congratulations to Braithwaite and all the Champions and Runners Up (below) and we look forward to the upcoming Interschool Carnival.
Carnival Results:
1st: Braithwaite 532, 2nd: Shakespeare 398, 3rd: Menzies 320 and 4th: Axford 295
Bonus Shield:
1st: Braithwaite, 2nd: Shakespeare, 3rd: Equal Axford and Menzies
For all the details and more pics (coming soon) visit the school website.
The number of applications received within the timeline matched the number of vacancies; therefore there is no requirement to hold an election.
I would like to welcome new parent members Marlene Kornides, Amanda Derbyshire (P&C) and Shelley Blechynden (Community Representative) to the Board, and Staff Representatives Cailie Spencer and Perisse Pitsikas.
I would also like to acknowledge retiring members Lorena Rock and Tina Watkins and thank them for their efforts and contributions over a long period of time.
Both Dr Alison Harman (Principal ESC) and I are looking forward to working with members and we are very keen to commence work at the next Board Meeting on Wednesday 28 March.
We are working closely with representatives from the P&C, School Board and City of Vincent to implement a new trial for the Kiss & Ride on Killarney Street. We will publish updates for parents in this newsletter.

On Thursday 8 March the students at Mount Hawthorn Primary school will be holding their first fundraiser for 2018. This initiative has come from Max, Matt and Drew, three of our Year 6 students. They have volunteered to have their heads shaved in support of ”The World’s Greatest Shave” which this year is raising money for research into blood cancer.
To support the boys, and this cause, all students may come to school in free dress and with crazy hair on this day and students are asked to make a gold coin donation.
At 1.20pm the three boys will have their heads shaved by Drew’s mother who is a hairdresser. No other students will be allowed to have their heads shaved by Mrs Corry.
The Pre-primary to Year 2 students will not be in the playground at this time so the three boys will come to each of their classrooms to show their shaved heads.
On Friday 16 March Room 38 will host the annual Harmony Day Assembly. All students are asked to wear the traditional costume of a country, or the Harmony colour orange. Students are asked to donate a gold coin towards the Adopt A School Program which goes directly to our sister school in Bali. This is a whole school assembly for Years PP-6 and will be held in the Hangar. A parade of costumes will follow the assembly.
Forms are available at the school office to help you complete your registration for this year’s footy tipping comp. You can pay cash or by credit card – $30.00 is the fee.
We are using www.footytips.com.au and you can download the app to help you tip on the go.
See the fixtures sheet below if you would like to tip in your classroom for 2018.
We are holding an information night for parents of students in Years 3-6 including all band and orchestra students on Monday 19 March at 6.30pm in the Harbeck Library.

The Mount Hawthorn Mountain GOATs are hosting a morning at the beach for all MHPS Dads and Kids. It will take place at Floreat Beach on Sunday 11 March between 10am and 1pm. It will be a great chance to spend some fun time with your kids and an opportunity to get creative as a family and demonstrate your sandcastle building skills!
There will be kids and dads races, the family sandcastle building competition (with special guest judge) and a treasure hunt. Afterwards, we’ll be cooking up a storm on the BBQs and making lunch for all. We are asking for $10 (plus booking fee) per family to cover food, prizes, equipment and a small donation to the Fathering Project.
Please let us know you’re coming and make your donation by using this Eventbrite link.
Don’t worry if your child is not confident in the ocean, all activities will take place on the beach.
