I wish everyone a very happy and relaxing extended Easter break full of chocolates and hot cross buns (available from the P&C Bunraiser) and we look forward to the last two weeks of term.
A reminder that Tuesday 3 April is an official holiday for all WA schools so students return to school after the Easter break on Wednesday 4 April.
This has been displayed in the school calendar on our website. Some Year 6 students synced my phone to the calendar and I highly recommend you subscribe because it is the best way to stay informed about school events with the most up to date information.
This was a wonderful evening last night attended by many parents from Mount Hawthorn, Kyilla, Jolimont and Maylands Peninsula Primary Schools. The information that Katie Hardman presented is available for interested parents via the orchestra and band liaison parents. We look forward to another very successful year for the music program.
What a great day on Sunday 11 March! I saw lots of Dads and children at the beach making sandcastles that looked like the Guggenheim and Mrs Mackesey had a very difficult task judging the winner. It was fantastic to see the interaction with so many of our Mount Hawthorn families and I look forward to the events planned for the future.
Information has been shared with the class liaison reps about changes to the Kiss & Ride. The timeline will be determined by a change of signage by the City of Vincent. Further information will be shared with parents when we have confirmation, hopefully by the start of Term 2.
Year 6 students Max E, Drew C and Matt C approached us about supporting their participation, which showed great leadership. Cancer has touched many members of our school community including staff and it is wonderful to see the leaders in our school espousing our virtues and values. We raised $1137.10 from the gold coin donations. Well done boys!
In the last newsletter I announced the results of the recent Board election process. As it turns out, I jumped the gun slightly because the Board’s Election Guidelines specify that the results should be announced after the Department’s mandatory police check process has been completed. Several nominees are waiting for that process to be finalised and I will make a final announcement soon. The newly appointed Board will begin work at the start of Term 2. In the meantime, the existing Board will continue to support the schools and at the next meeting on Wednesday 28 March will consider nominations in the community category and formalise the co-opting to the Board of the P&C’s Liaison person.
Please be aware that it may not always be possible to deliver messages to your child after the lunch break, unless it is an emergency situation.
Please remind your child/ren to come to the office if you are not there to collect them after school.

The Assembly on Friday 16 March was a wonderful celebration of the multicultural nature of West Australian society and our school community. Congratulations to Mr Thompson and his Year 5 students on an outstanding presentation. The theme was very pertinent and dovetailed nicely into the National Day Against Bullying and Violence with our classrooms participating in activities using resources from the Bullying No Way site and Friendly Kids Friendly Classrooms.
We raised $789.80 to donate to our Sister School in Bali and Miss Pizzino and Mrs Russell are looking forward to visiting the school in the holidays.
This year’s annual ANZAC Ceremony is on Friday 13 April. The ceremony will be held on the junior tiger turf and will commence 8.50am. All students are required to wear full school uniform (not faction T shirts). If any students are members of service groups (eg scouts, rangers etc) they are encouraged to wear the uniform of their group. A student from each class will be chosen to place a flower at the ceremony. If your child is chosen you will be notified by a personal letter from me. This semester’s councillors will compere the ceremony. Members of the local RSL will be invited to attend.

OSCA is seeking new members to join its Management Committee, to help fill vacancies following the departure of longstanding members who have generously supporting OSCA over the past several years. The OSCA Committee is made up of parents and guardians of children who use OSCA services. The committees role is to provide oversight and guidance to OSCA to ensure it provides a safe, trusting and enjoyable environment for before school, after school and vacation care. No prior experience or particular skills are required, other than an interest in having a say in the care of your children! The Committee meets at the school monthly over wine and nibbles.
Year 5 students Isobel H and Caitlin M from competed in the State Athletics Championships for the Inglewood Little Athletics Club.
Isobel finished 9th in the turbo javelin and Caitlin competed in the 70m, 200m and 100m, in which she finished in 7th place.
The Queen’s Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games travelled to Perth last weekend and Caitlin was lucky enough to have a photo with the Baton when it arrived at the State Athletics Centre.
Easter is just around the corner and the smell of hot cross buns is simply delicious. We are offering a Bunraiser! New Norcia Hot Cross Buns at $9.00 for 6 rather than $9.80 in store, plus the school raises a few dollars per pack.

Buns need to be collected on Thursday 29 March at the assembly, please bring your own bag.
The P&C AGM was held on Monday 26 February, thank you to all those who attended and nominated for positions. It is with great pleasure that we welcome back Scott Yelland as President and Tracy Denham as Vice President. We welcome new faces Liz Tilmouth as Treasurer and Angeline Hicks as Secretary.

There will be a School Banking Information Session for parents on Tuesday 27 March at 8.15am in the Harbeck Library.
The event went really well. There were over 30 dads and 60 kids in attendance and the weather could not have been better. A big thanks to Mr and Mrs Mackesey for taking the time out to come and judge the sandcastle building comp. It was a real thrill for the kids and a tough task for the judges.
