I have really enjoyed my return to Mount Hawthorn Primary School in second term. It has been a pleasure to watch the leadership from our Year 6 students and I wish them all the best for their  future schooling. I would also like to thank my staff for going above and beyond throughout the years to ensure the richness of our Mount Hawthorn program is second to none. To the volunteers who selflessly assist in all areas of the school from classroom reading to lobbying for facilities on the School Board and fundraising – you make a difference and ensure Mount Hawthorn Primary School  is the envy of many other schools.
I look forward to 2018 with a great deal of optimism and I will endeavour to find a shirt that fits for next year!
I wish all families a happy and safe summer break and we look forward to seeing most students return for the commencement of Term 1 on Wednesday 31 January 2018.
The work to enclose the undercover area has been scheduled to commence next week. I would like to thank the P&C for funding this project. Your hard work and fair fundraising efforts will be rewarded with this wonderful new facility.
Class placements for 2018 will be published on the school website in mid January with password protection (the password will be sent via 2017 Liaison Parents and FlexiBuzz). There will be a staggered release for each year group to avoid crashing the website. All updates about this process will be published on the front page of the school website https://mounthawthornps.wa.edu.au/ so keep checking in!
It was a tremendous night and I would like to acknowledge all the award winners and the Year 6 team for coordinating the evening ably supported by a number of our support staff. Click HERE for more pics and award winners.
Thank you to Mrs Ward, Mrs Turner and Miss Grace who were all here on Saturday packing up their classrooms in the heat, what a team! Also to the amazing volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to move the Pre-primary garden beds and compost bin ready for the new year. The Pre-primary students next year will now have the opportunity to all actively engage and use these for their play and learning experiences.
Carols at Kindy was a great night and a small taste of what’s to come for those parents coming to the main campus for Pre-primary. Thank you to Mr Adlam the Music Man, Mrs Adlam and the whole team for organising the evening.
Wednesday’s music Concert was a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas and the end of 2017. The Pre-primary to Year 5 students all dressed in festive clothes for the occasion. The repertoire of Christmas Carols and story of Christmas were enjoyed by students as well as family members in the audience. Congratulations must go to Mrs Hardman and Mrs Smart our music specialists, and Mrs Nicholls who has been helping during Mrs Smart’s absence, for the standard of singing and instrument playing that was presented.
The year has concluded with the very popular Edu-Dance concerts. All students from Pre-primary to Year 6 have performed in one of the three concerts. The concerts are the culmination of an eight week dance program provided by the Edu-Dance company. The program fulfils the dance element of the Health and Physical Education learning area. Students participate in aspects such as coordination, musical appreciation and self-confidence. This has been an opportunity for our students to experience the excitement of performing in front of an audience. It has also been a program for fitness and fun.

On Tuesday 5 December 2017 students from Mount Hawthorn, Kyilla, Jolimont, West Leederville, Inglewood and Maylands Peninsula Primary Schools performed in the annual Finale Concert at the Churchlands SHS Concert Hall. The concert was a celebration of the wonderful music programs offered to the students from these schools. As well as performances by the Mount Hawthorn Choir and Orchestra and the Mount Hawthorn Area band, every Mount Hawthorn student from Year 3 to Year 6 who learns an instrument from the School of Instrumental Music teachers showcased their talents. All music students and their teachers are to be congratulated on the success of this wonderful evening.
