Last Thursday afternoon I enjoyed presenting Aldi Mini Roos packs to over 60 children from Kindy and Pre-primary who participated in this fantastic program, which was instigated by Danielle Power (PP Parent) and supported by Floreat Athena Football Club. I would like to congratulate and thank Con Poulios and the late Paul Katris for all their hard work to make this such a great success. I’m no talent scout, but I think there were lots of Sam Kerrs and Tim Cahills which augurs well for our future interschool sport competitions.
The Mount Hawthorn Fathering Project team (Mountain GOATs) hosted the Big Camp Out on the school oval last Saturday night. There were 57 tents and 98 kids with their dads, a total of 155 people. For me it was so special to see all the children helping their dads pitch tents on the oval. The dads were demonstrating the virtue of tolerance, with children banging tent pegs in the wrong places with the wrong side of the hammer! They all enjoyed a fantastic treasure hunt, played games and strengthened one-on-one relationships. It was a pleasure to see the sheer joy on all the faces of both dads and kids. The school was left immaculate and we appreciate the efforts of all the GOATs and look forward to many more events like this one! Please join the Mountain GOATs Facebook group and subscribe to the mailing list for information on future events.
At the last meeting, the P&C agreed to provide $100,000 towards enclosing the undercover area. On behalf of our students, staff and families, I would like to thank all the P&C members and parents in general for this legacy for all our students going forward. Hopefully the work will commence during the Christmas holidays.
This special Assembly will be held on Wednesday 13 December in the Hangar for Pre-primary to Year 5 students. This year it will be fun and relaxed as we will be having one big sing-a-long. Children are welcome to wear free dress in Christmas colours as well as hats, antlers and tinsel. Some of our Year 3 students will be playing tuned percussion. All family and friends are welcome.
Kaden S Year 1, Sonny G Year 2 and Tobias S Year 4 have all been selected to compete in relay teams at the Little Athletics State championships on Saturday 2 December. Good luck boys!
A big thank you to Mrs Williams for making Room 41 a germ free zone. The children clean their desks each day and clean their hands every time they enter the class.
I have received several complaints about people parking on Matlock and Killarney at pick up time, not using the footbridge to cross Scarborough Beach Road and parents parking in staff car parks, blocking staff members in.
Thank you to those people who are doing the right thing, however I am very tired of asking those who are putting our students at risk to adhere to these requests.
Your child’s report will again be sent by email. If you have changed your email address since receiving the Semester 1 report, please ensure that you notify the school office immediately. If you have not received the report by the end of Tuesday 12 December, please email mounthawthorn.ps@education.wa.edu.au
The report is accessed by a link which expires after four weeks. Once you have opened the report, please save or print for later access.
Our school is supporting Hawaiian’s Mezz giving box, collecting much needed items for their charity partners, Foodbank and Anglicare WA.
These items will help local families enjoy a happier Christmas. Please help by donating items like non-perishable foods, new clothes, toys and books to the schools Giving Box in the last two weeks of November. Collection boxes are located at Senior and Junior School block entrances, Pre-primary, Kindy and the Harbeck Library.
During Term 3 Mrs Hardman and Mrs Smart conducted the Department of Education IMSS Musical Aptitude Indicator (MAI) test with all students in Year 2, 3 and 4. The MAI is marked out of 40. There are three parts: pitch (20 items), rhythm (10 items) and tunes (10 Items). It takes just under 17 minutes to complete. The results of this test, attitude and interest during music lessons and teacher input regarding commitment to practice and meeting deadlines with classroom work, are considered before a student is made an offer for instrumental tuition. This is a highly competitive process with only 8 Year 2 students, 3 Year 3 students and 25 Year 4 students being offered the opportunity to learn an instrument. Congratulations to those 36 students who have been offered and accepted this highly sought after opportunity. Bronwen Mears Associate Principal
Last Friday students were encouraged to come to school in free dress and to donate a gold coin for charity. This fundraising event was conducted in tandem with the students from the Education Support Centre. $253.55 helped them meet their target to fund food packages for homeless people and $678.75 was donated to our sister school in Bali. Many thanks to all students who participated in  this joint fundraising venture. Bronwen Mears Associate Principal
