One of the many great functions of my role is to attend the annual Western Australian Government School Crown Concert. The current and past students from MHPS shone throughout the evening with their solo and collective performances. The night was one of the many opportunities our students have to showcase their talents and it also demonstrates to the wider community the quality of the music program at our school. My thanks go out to Mrs Hardman, Mrs Carter and Mrs Mears for their continued efforts in supporting this exemplary program.
Student Reports will be sent home next week with staff looking at the overall school performance as part of the self-assessment processes with members of the School Board. Information about the school performance will be published in the Annual Report with recommendations guiding school planning.

We are excited to be celebrating Children’s Book Week with the theme “Escape to Everywhere”.
This Friday, 25 August there will be a GREEN Assembly hosted by Room 31 followed by the Book Week Parade of Pre-primary to Year 6 students dressed as their favourite book character. The parade will be held on the tiger turf (weather permitting) or in the Hangar.
At our Assembly last Friday we welcomed special guests MP Mr Tim Hammond, CSIRO Deputy Director Dr Steve Harvey and CSIRO SIS Dr Bruce Webber. For a full wrap up of our Science Week events with more pictures click HERE
On Monday night, the choir, orchestra and soloists performed magnificently in front of 2000 people at Crown Theatre.
We were all excited and nervous as we performed and then bursting with energy and wanting to do it all again as the crowd cheered for us. Congratulations to all. Thanks for sharing your talent and making Mount Hawthorn shine! Mrs Hardman Music Teacher
We would like to invite parents of a Year 5 or 6 student attending a school in our enrolment zone, to visit Churchlands SHS on the morning of Friday, 1 September 2017 commencing at 9.20am.
The visit will provide a firsthand account of a day at Churchlands SHS and an opportunity to view our school’s facilities and the learning and teaching processes. Please RSVP to Administration on 9441 1700.
Well done to all students for arriving at the “Kiss and Drive” on time and waiting for parents to enter the designated pick up zone before getting into your car.
The winner of the raffle for following these traffic safety guidelines is Alex S Year 1 Room 3. You have won a special parking bay outside Admin for one week!
I am one of the Year 6 leaders for our road safety part of the school newsletter and this week’s focus is on the footbridge that crosses over Scarborough Beach Road.
We all know that if we are walking to school we have to be safe but one of the most important places is just as simple as using the footbridge over Scarborough Beach Road. When walking to school you must walk over the bridge and not across the road otherwise you could be in danger of being hit by cars. The overpass was put there for a reason and that means we all have to obey the rules and cross over the bridge.
Lately we have seen parents and their children walk across Scarborough Beach Road instead of going over the footbridge, and I understand that some people are in a hurry but please take your time to walk across the bridge. We all know the saying ‘Safety First’.

Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 students representing Mount Hawthorn Primary School at the recent Hockey Championship day at Perth Hockey Stadium on Thursday, 3 August. Five games were contested against other northern suburb schools, and the great day was enjoyed by all. The day was topped off by the team watching the Australian Hockeyroos in action against Japan, who had an international match afterwards. Thanks to all the parents who attended and helped out on the day.
The 2017 Disco was an incredible night. Great fun was had by the kids who were entertained by the DJ and our two special guest DJ’s Miss Pizzino and Mr P. Two magical mirror photo booths created lots of fun as did the food and glow sticks. The downstairs parents area saw the parents get together knowing their kids were happily upstairs. The pizza fire truck outside was a hit, and we got fast delicious wood fired pizza. Thank you to Miss Pizzino and Mr P for being our special guest DJ’s and to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the evening the success it was.

We have currently sold 70 raffle books. If anyone would like a second book, please email the P&C.
Many thanks to those families who have sold tickets. If you have any tickets you can’t sell please return them to the green box in Admin ASAP.
