School Newsletter

8 February 2017
The 17th of February is always an important day for school planning, it is when our student enrolments are finalised to inform us of our budget for the remainder of the calendar year. Until then, we operate with planning scenarios. Our school is very much growing in student enrolment and I anticipate a student enrolment of around 850 students on this date. Internally, we are prioritising funds to address two core areas of our 2015-2017 Business Plan:
It is of great assistance to our student census if all student database information has been updated if there have been any changes from the end of 2016.
Matt Jarman
Thank you to everyone involved in achieving such a great result.

On April 4th and 5th MHPS will participate in its second triennial review since becoming an Independent Public School in August 2011. Â Whilst full of commendations, the first review in 2014 delivered the following areas for improvement, (full report from 2014 is available on our school website here through the School Board page):
The next Business Plan include targets that are measurable and achievable and include both academic and non-academic student achievement;
The next Business Plan include the purpose of the Mount Hawthorn Schools cluster, along with any targets set for the cluster and the expected educational benefits to the students of the school.
Our review presentation commences this evening at the first school board meeting of the year. We will not only address these two recommendations but also endeavour to strongly present all of the wonderful attributes of MHPS.
At the conclusion of 2016 School Board elections for vacant parent positions were held attracting for the first time a highly competitive field. From the school’s perspective I was very grateful to enjoy such widespread interest, expertise and willingness to help our school achieve its vision and strategic goals.
In 2017 we welcome as parent representatives, (*new in 2017):

Uni-Active Program
Uni-Active is a developmentally appropriate, evidence based movement program that aims to assess and improve fundamental movement skills of primary school aged children. We have found over the years that as students get older they lack some of the basic fundamental movement skills. Our aim at MHPS is to seek ways to improve in these areas and work on early intervention. This program was presented to us by UWA which is an educational institution we are using to support our Physical Education Program.
