Runner-up Champion Boys from Interschool Athletics Carnival, L-R: Marley B, James T and Tobias S
LAPATHON
Dont forget the Lapathon is happening this Friday, September 23rd, from 1:00pm at Menzies Park.
Come along to cheer the runners and walkers and celebrate the end of term.
Money raised through the Lapathon will be used to improve shade around the school and to have funds set aside to improve the oval.
We need 1-2 volunteers per class to assist with the School Lap-A-Thon being held on Friday, 23rd September from 1:00pm. Proceeds from this event will go towards the new shade sail at the junior school and the re-turf fund for the school oval.
All parents/family members are encouraged to come and cheer on the kids at this event! Please let your class teacher know if you are able to assist.
INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Congratulations to all the competitors at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. Mount Hawthorn placed 4th overall, maintaining this lead from Monday’s results.
A fantastic effort by all students and a big congratulations to Marley B, James T and Tobias S, for achieving the honor of Runner-up Champion Boys.
Also, thank you to Alisa F, Helen D and Jodie C, for their time volunteering on the day. Your efforts are valued – Anita Putt and Susan Kenny
Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief update on the activities that the MHPS P&C have undertaken year to date, and to give you an overview of our plans for the remainder of this year and into next year.
This year saw many changes in the P&C committee with a new President, Vice President and Secretary as well as a new sub-committee dedicated to Fundraising. Together we have been working towards getting some big projects across the line and in order to fund these there has been what can feel like a never-ending amount of fundraising activities. The great news is that we are now in a position to proceed with many of these projects and you will start seeing the benefits of your hard work. Some of the upcoming projects include:
Canteen Refurbishment: The canteen will undergo a major refit over the summer holidays to bring it up to a required standard. Currently, the flooring and wall tiling is substandard and the oven, which is propped up on bricks, only works intermittently. After the refit, the canteen will meet the Fresh Food Canteen criteria and will not only be beneficial to students and OSCA that currently use the canteen but will also be a valuable asset that can be used for other out-of-hours school functions.
Shade Sail: If you’ve ever waited on the tiger turf to collect your children on a hot summer’s day you will understand the need for additional shading. We are obtaining quotes to have a shade sail to be erected over the southern end of the tiger turf with the aim of having it installed when the junior school roof is replaced.
Oval & Grounds: In addition to oval returfing works that Carol Selley has successfully lobbied the Department of Education to pay for, the P&C have a Grounds Plan that addresses improvements across the entire school ground. (Don’t forget the school grounds busy bee 24th September!) It is a really comprehensive plan that encompasses things like an outdoor classroom, improved play areas for the students, retaining works and improvements to the oval, new plantings and mulch etc.
At the beginning of the year the P&C also contributed significant funds to the school and the Ed Support Centre to be used at the schools’ discretion for projects to benefit the students. Funds have been committed to a new shade sail and ground improvements at the Kindy, funding for Mathletics and STEM projects, new netball rings, higher fencing on the netball courts and the purchase of a defibrillator.
We will soon be installing two new noticeboards in the school grounds where we can clearly show you where the money that you have raised is being spent. We are committed to being totally transparent and we welcome your input and feedback.
As we move towards the end of the year and into next year, our focus will be more on social and community events rather than just fundraising. We have the outdoor movie and the art-auction night’s coming up. Yes, these events will help to raise funds, but the main purpose is to bring the school community together and to have a bit of fun. In late 2017 there will be a school fair so there won’t be a big focus on fundraising throughout the year, however we will continue our focus on social and community events.
If you ever have any questions, suggestions or concerns you’re more than welcome to contact me directly on 0401 676 950 or send an email to the P&C team at mthawthornps@gmail.com.
Kind regards,
Scott Yelland
President – MHPS P&C
