This term all Year 6 students and some selected Year 5 students have participated in a Home and Away style fixture against Subiaco, Wembley and West Balcatta Primary School in Netball, Soccer, AFL and Modcrosse.
These fixtures culminate in an all-day Winter Carnival in the last week of term at various venues. Highgate Primary is also included in this carnival. We would like to thank those parents who have contributed time to help manage some of the teams.
The following ambassadors for the respected sports were chosen last term to assist in duties associated with each team; they have all been fantastic leaders in this area:
Netball – Mia and Tahlia, Soccer – Oscar, James and Cody, AFL – Nicholas and Thomas, Modcrosse – Ruby, Sacha and Jaymee.
Throughout second term the faction leaders have put a football team together to play Round Robin fixtures of Faction Football. One team each week is allocated set up duties. This year, the Year 6 students involved need to be congratulated for their superb organisation. Also, well done to Nicholas and Tom (AFL Ambassadors) for their excellent umpiring and to those boys who filled in when they were playing. The Grand Final was played on Tuesday 14th June. Shakespeare played Braithwaite and Shakespeare won the competition by a point in a very tough fought match.
We enjoyed a visit from two Fremantle players Aaron Sandilands and Gareth Garrick Ibbotson yesterday. They gave a talk to our Year 6 Faction Footy participants at lunchtime in the library. They also gave footy skills clinics and signed posters for all the Year 5 classes.
Congratulations to all those students who have achieved the first milestone of 20km and have have their name listed on the school website Honour List . Some students have also achieved the next milestone of 40km, well done. These students also received a certificate for each of these milestones. The next milestone is 50km, these students will receive a wrist band.
It has been fantastic seeing the students increase their level of physical fitness, which has also helped them train for the Faction Cross Country held in Week 6 and the Interschool Cross Country at City Beach Oval. Congratulations to all those students selected for this.
Thank you to Raf Baugh, one of our Mount Hawthorn parents, who provides the Trackstars Program for providing some training sessions for our Faction and Interschool Cross Country.
