Principal’s Message

BOOK WEEK PARADE AND BOOK SWAP

Bookweek-5

I was pleased to see the whole school community involved with the festivities for book week, with students and staff displaying a variety of entertaining characters. The parade was ably hosted by “The Gruffalo Child”, AKA Jeff Thompson, who was assisted by “Willy Wonka”, AKA Anne Monisse. In a world full of change it is great to see that books are still fundamental to the development of our imaginations.

Bookweek-2

SCIENCE ASSEMBLY

Bookweek-15

Through the eye of the storm the Science Assembly went ahead last Friday and was hugely successful. Special thanks to our special guest scientist, Professor Bruce Webber, whose message was “science is groovy”. Through the events of last week, we highlighted the vast amount of scientific talent we have in our school. Thanks to the Science Committee, and especially Emma French and Melanie Lewis-Russell, for organising the week and congratulations to all the prize winners.
FACTION CARNIVAL THURSDAY, 3 SEPTEMBER
Excitement is building for the Faction Athletics events next week, culminating in the carnival on Thursday. If it is raining on the day, we will be posting updates about arrangements for the day via the school App.
Cupcake Fundraiser
To add to the fun and community spirit on the day, parents are asked to donate cupcakes decorated in their child’s faction colours. We were overwhelmed with the number of cupcakes last year, so we are asking parents to provide a limit of twelve cupcakes per family and spares will be donated to Foyer on Oxford Street. Bonus points will be allocated to the faction with the most creative cupcakes. Please bring your cupcakes to the designated faction table in the pavilion, on the day of the carnival. They will be sold for $1.00 each via an honour system.
*NB Parents may purchase cakes for their children, however children will not be allowed in the pavilion to buy cakes. Coffee vans will be available at the carnival.

AUTISM AWARENESS
Our joint School Board would like to highlight the partnership we have with the Education Support Centre (ESC) and provide information about the successful programs that complement both our school and the ESC.
WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN PROGRAM
We have been overwhelmed with the response to the Earn and Learn program and have a large amount of stickers that need to be collated. We are seeking some volunteers to collate on the sheets ready to redeem. If you have any time you can offer, preferably until 9.30am in the morning and from 2.30pm in afternoon on any day, please let the front office know. Lorena Rock

CELEBRITIES AND WANNABEES DISCO
Many celebrities were spotted on Friday 14th August, entering the Floreat Athena Soccer club (and several wannabes also managed to sneak in!) Games, activities and fabulous dancing went on all night long and the paparazzi were there to catch it all!
A big thanks to all of our parent volunteers, the Year 6 Events Committee: Demi, Estelle, Sam, Tallan, Veronica, Xavier & Zoe!
We would also like to thank Diabolik Book Shop in Mt Hawthorn and Network Video Mt Hawthorn at The Mezz for kindly donating some of the prizes for our Raffle and Lego Guess competition.
Well done to all of our MHPS students on helping to make the night loads of fun.
